Women supporting women: a strategy for peace and sustainability

In June 2018 Marina, Elena and Kirina from Academy ‘Ekaterina Karavelova’ decided to organise a community event, which would give the floor to two women, who are not famous and live in their city ,Plovdiv, to speak and tell their stories. They named the event ’She in Plovdiv’ and held it in Otsreshta. It was such a powerful and emotional gathering that it started to happen every month, empowering women from their community to speak. 16 months later ‘She in….’ events are being regularly organised in 5 different Bulgarian cities reaching hundreds of women every month and around the events local women communities have been established in Plovdiv, Varna, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Sandanski. In this workshop we will explore why supportive women communities play an important role in maintaining peaceful and sustainable societies and how you could start one in your community, village, city, or workplace.
